What Australians think of our kava !
from 446 reviewsWhen I first tried this Natural Kava, I have to admit I assumed it would be some weak kava blend that was just thrown together from cheap kava sources.
Boy was I wrong... they've taken a bunch of absolute premium kava and engineered a POWERFUL blend that's just a smashing upper head high.
The kavalactins, the feel good compound, must be off the scales on this blend. It's just an absolute bliss and inner peace feeling. So much so that it's become my favourite kava here.
The flavour is decent too, although a bit variable between grass and old leather. The potency is always the same though.
I really do highly recommend this stuff, and Cam's done an awesome job sourcing such a lovely kava.
Thought i'd share with you a little straining secret too, for those of you using a blender and straining it into a bowl.
You pour the kava into the corner of the bag, squeeze from the top, then squeeze the middle into an hour-glass shape, and intermittently squeeze the bottom and top of the hour-glass.
Makes straining the bag a whole lot easier, and you can squeeze every drop out.
Anyway, Bula! and enjoy the kava folks. It sure beats alcohol. 🙂
Waka Premium Kava Powder Review
Quality and Taste
Waka Premium Kava Powder stands out as a high-quality kava product that delivers a smooth, earthy taste typical of traditional kava root. The grind is fine, making it easy to prepare, whether you prefer the traditional straining method or a modern blender approach. The flavor is earthy and slightly bitter, which is expected for kava enthusiasts, but not overpowering.
Potency
The potency is impressive, offering a calming and relaxing effect within 20-30 minutes. It’s perfect for unwinding after a long day or as a natural way to manage stress and anxiety. The kavalactone content is noticeable, providing a balance of relaxation without excessive sedation, making it suitable for both newcomers and seasoned kava drinkers.
Preparation
The powder is easy to work with and blends well in cold or warm water. For best results, use a strainer bag or muslin cloth to ensure a smooth texture. The instructions on the package are clear, and the preparation process doesn’t take long.
Packaging
Waka Premium Kava Powder comes in a resealable bag that preserves freshness and makes storage convenient. The packaging is minimalist but effective, with clear information about the product and usage guidelines.
Value for Money
Given the quality and potency, Waka Premium Kava Powder offers great value for money. It’s priced competitively compared to other premium kava products on the market, and a small amount goes a long way.
Pros:
High-quality and potent
Smooth, traditional flavor
Easy to prepare
Resealable packaging for freshness
Good value for money
Cons:
The earthy taste may be an acquired preference for some
Not ideal for those seeking a less potent, beginner-friendly kava
Final Thoughts
Waka Premium Kava Powder is an excellent choice for anyone looking to experience authentic, high-quality kava. Whether you're winding down at the end of the day or seeking a natural way to manage stress, this product delivers on its promises. While the taste may not suit everyone initially, the relaxing effects make it worth trying.
Love the Vanuatu Kava and the Borogu variety is my favourite. Its easy to drink, like other Vanuatu varieties I've tried it has a peppery creamy taste and not bitter like the Fijian kava. It makes a good potent brew with heavy heady effects and pleasant dreams. Been drinking Kava as an alternative to alcohol for just over 6 months now, its helped me keep away from the booze and I dont miss it (and lost some weight which is a win win). Would recommend Vanuatu variety to anyone and Borogu is a great one to start on. Mixed my NYE batch to see in the new year happy and chilled and without the hangover.
Haven’t had a drink it’s the bomb I love it .
Thank you very much .
Regards Andrew
A well balanced kava that combined relief with a bit of pleasant euphoria
I don't mind straight kava; just toss it back. My wife however struggled until now (dysgeusia). Half a pod does the trick and leaves enough for round 2. The best for a quick fix for the taste challenged. Thanks for finding it!
I recently tried Kava for the first time as I've given up drinking, and it's an awesome substitute to relax you. The Borogu Kava was a much better product than one I bought off the shelf at Coles!
Bought the Borogu kava to serve at a gathering and it went down a treat!
This is a great product and a good alternative to drinking alcohol. Very relaxing too.
Love have this for supper after tea to help have a great sleep . Works well love it
Borogu is a nice strong kava. Just like Melo Melo. I Look forward to coming home for a few a few shells of Borogu after a long day at work. Reminds me of sitting at a Nakamal back at home.
Bought my first bag recently and very happy with the product. My routine is now solid each night with good sleep nightly.
This strain is as strong as, if not more than any others I've had this year.
Will be buying again
I was in desperate need of something to replace alcohol in my evenings at home. I tried the 'kneed yourself' kava, and while it worked, it was a lot of mess for one person. The instant kava, with some sugar-free syrup and soda water has changed my life. I'm using 5g per serve, and it does a great job of a mild sedative in the evening - more or less why I was drinking but without the slurring, hangovers or calories. HIGHLY recommend.
I did get used to the taste, but never really liked it. A little syrup covers it up just as well as orange or pineapple jiuce.
Strong and does the job really well to squeeze all the goodness out.
This is by far the best product. So easy and I find it the strongest .of all the blends . I’ve tried another instant from a competitor, and it doesn’t compare .
Australians in particular have taken to this traditional drink, for a variety of reasons:
They enjoy the health benefits such as reducing their dependence on alcohol, reducing anxiety, easing stress and improving sleep;
Additionally, there is the growing ‘sober curiosity‘ factor in our society, that is, seeking viable alternatives to alcohol and drugs while still wanting something that’s a “feel-good” option;
Given that kava is 100% organic (no fertilisers, pesticides or herbicides are used in its cultivations), it doesn’t give you an alcohol-type hangover the following morning.
The Pacific Islanders Influence
What you may not know is that there is also a large population of Pacific Islanders in this country. Kava is the cornerstone of Pacific Islander tradition and whilst an acquired taste, it helps connect Islander-Australians with their cultural identity.
Moreover, because the drink is not alcohol, it is a lot less harmful than other substances that are readily available in Australia, whilst also providing some health benefits for drinkers.
Pacific Islanders are often asked – “Why do you drink it?” The reality is that it’s really important to their culture. It is the way they connect and interact when they drink kava that is really good for mental health. In fact, the drinking of kava is well-recognised as a great social tonic.
As a side note, Kava is sometimes used as a treatment for insomnia, stress and anxiety.
Kava Bars in Australia
In the U.S.A, the number of kava bars can be counted in the hundreds. That’s because it’s a relatively mature industry, compared to Australia. The number of kava bars in Australia amount to a handful – so far.
We have no doubt that this situation will change. The drinking of kava in Australia is escalating at a rate that can only be described as phenomenal. As the demand for it grows, so will the proliferation of kava bars in Australia.
