From Pentecost Island, Melo Melo is considered one of the premium Vanuatu noble kava varieties. It’s subtle flavour (not as strong to taste) and smooth affect is highly sought after. As the name says the effect of this kava is a very mellow one, with seasoned kava drinkers loving the euphoric and sociable buzz.
For those wanting to experiment with kava, i.e., making kava cocktails, it is ideal as the normally strong kava taste is dialled down. For those wanting to simply put away a few shells of kava in the afternoon, its less peppery taste is ideal as well.
Melo Melo kava is smaller than most noble variety kava plants, but the yield time is about the same. This meant for many years it was always difficult to source as a lot of farmers preferred growing the Borogu variety as they get more bang for their buck. However, over the past 10 years the US market has really taken to Melo Melo. This export demand is now so high that kava growers on Pentecost are planting half their crops with Melo Melo. This is a massive win for kava connoisseurs as it means this premium noble variety is now available in abundance!
At Australia Kava Shop we supply only noble variety kava and certificates of analysis for all our kava can be found HERE.
If you are considering our Melo Melo kava, we can highly recommend also purchasing a specialised kava straining bag. They will help maximise your brew strength when you make kava, plus you don’t have to keep raiding your wife’s panty hose collection!
