What is Waka Kava?
Waka kava is made from the lateral roots of the kava plant called (piper methysticum), which grows in Fiji. Of all the kava varieties that are available to Fijians, “Waka” is the most prized. Waka kava powder is made up of ONLY the lateral roots of the kava plant. These lateral roots are heavy in kava lactones and give a very heavy body effect. It is distinct in its dark colour as it is made only from the lateral roots. If you see kava advertised as “waka” but it is creamy, off white or similar it is not true waka fiji kava.

Why do people like our Waka Premium so much?
Well, it certainly isn’t for the taste! Waka Kava is always very strong and bitter to taste. The test of the quality of the waka is whether it tastes dirty or not. Our Waka Premium range is washed and then cleaned using a soaking process then it is sprayed with a high-pressure hose to remove all the dirt. It is then driedin commercial dehydrators to maximise the kava lactone retention as opposed to traditional sun drying.
We then import the dried powder and pack it in HACCAP certified conditions. The end result is a strong heavy effect Waka kava. It brings a heavy body effect and is bitter but not dirty to taste. We believe it is one of the purest Waka kava products on the market.
