Do you want to buy kava in Australia? Then you’ve come to the right place.
WE KNOW OUR ROOTS!
Importing and drinking kava is now legal in Australia – so why use black market operators? At Australia Kava Shop, we offer premium product at the best price, delivered to your door.
We only source the best varieties from the most reliable exporters. We only import kava that is certified as noble variety and has passed mocrobial testing at its country of origin. Once in Australia, our kava is passed by Australian Quarantine’s biological and food standards and is packaged in Australia by certified food packers.
We have worked in kava since 2004. During this time, we’ve made contacts in the kava industry throughout the Pacific and the United States. Check out Australia Kava Shop’s range of kava, our team and history and you’ll see that “We know our Roots!”.
Kava has been used throughout the Pacific for centuries as a social tonic and for custom ceremonies. A big wedding coming up? Then bringing kava is essential. Have a dispute with your neighbor? Then sit down and share some kava together and resolve the issue. It is an integral part of society in most South Pacific countries.
Kava popularity in the United States has exploded in the past decade. Kava bars and kava-based products (kava chocolate, etc.) are available throughout the US. Now Australians have the opportunity to drink and enjoy kava after over a decade of it being banned for importation and sale. The Australian Government rolled out their Phase 2 of the Kava Importation Trials in January 2022. This means kava can brought into Australia and sold under an import permit model. It also means that kava is classified as a food and able to be sold. The end result is that if you want to buy kava in Australia, you now can!
We are passionate about kava and have been involved in the industry for over 15 years. Not only do we “know our roots” but we are excited to be part of Australians being able to experience kava legally again. If you want to buy kava, but are unsure about us, check out the Australian Kava Shop team story HERE.
The argument about whether Fiji kava is better than Vanuatu kava is decades long. Fiji kava is consumed in its dry powdered form in Fiji. In Vanuatu, kava is prepared using the fresh green roots.
Fiji Kava drinkers are often shocked at how Vanuatu kava drinkers consume their kava. Vanuatu custom is that kava is to be drunk over 1-2 hours at the end of the day. Vanuatu Kava drinkers are surprised to see Fiji kava drinkers drink heavily diluted kava over 4 or more hours. This in part goes a long way to the theory that Vanuatu kava is stronger than Fiji kava. However this does not mean that Fiji Kava is weaker.
Kava is a sterile cultivar, meaning there is little much variation in kava lactone content between noble strains. Fiji kava drinkers seem to prize kava lactone content overall. Hence the reason they love their Waka kava. Vanuatu kava drinkers appear to prefer varieties that have high levels of the kavain lactone (the feel-good lactone).
In summary, there is little difference in “kava strength” between Fiji kava and Vanuatu kava. The difference comes in the taste and effects that each country’s kava has. Moreover, the preparation and water ratio is crucial in determining how strong your kava brew will be.
Why not try a 250gm bag of all three types; Borogu, Melo Melo and Waka and see what works for you!
