Start with the Instant Kava if you want the easiest introduction. It mixes directly into water, so you can become familiar with kava without learning any preparation techniques. From there, try Vanuatu Natural when you want a fuller, more social traditional kava, and save Waka Premium for evenings when you want to slow down properly. There is no single “best” option – the kit is designed to help you discover which style suits you.
Instant Kava is made from fresh green kava juice that has already been processed and dried into a soluble powder. That is why you can simply add it to water, stir and drink. Vanuatu Natural and Waka Premium are traditional ground-root powders, so they still contain plant fibre. They need to be prepared with the Alu Kava Ball or straining bag so the kava is extracted into the water while the coarse fibre stays out of your drink.
Both can be used to prepare the Vanuatu Natural and Waka Premium, but they offer two different approaches. The Alu Kava Ball is the quick, low-mess option—add the powder to the ball, place it in a secure shaker bottle with water and shake. The reusable straining bag is for classic hand-kneaded preparation in a bowl. It takes a little longer, but it lets you learn the traditional preparation method and is useful when making a larger batch.
The kit includes all three kavas and both traditional preparation tools. For the Instant Kava, you only need water, a glass and something to stir with. To prepare Vanuatu Natural or Waka Premium with the straining bag, you will need a bowl and water. To use the Alu Kava Ball, you will also need a strong, securely sealing protein-style shaker bottle—the shaker bottle itself is not included.
